Remains of a Future,

Visions of a Past

The precarious state of our world is a constant occupation of mine as each day goes by and I have sought to make a work that emphasizes the obvious question,

How did we get here?

Employing narrative, myth, hyper-expressivity, and the natural world, επτά: Remains of a Future, Visions of a Past peels back the layers of human impulse to try to better understand our demise by way of The 8 Evil Thoughts, a concept originally invented by Greek Monastic theologian Evagrius Ponticus.

The ten-minute dance piece is accompanied by the voice of Lena Platanos and her Greek electronica synthesizer compositions. The vocal constellations of Platanos punctuate and enunciate the momentum of the Sin’s in motion, as they oscillate throughout the space.

Weaving together themes of futurism, human impulse, and memory inside the choreographic scaffolding of my work. Movement research stems from the natural world and anatomical organization/dislocation, to propel the senses into a surreal experience of space and sound.

επτά Remains of a Future, Visions of a Past is an immersive and surreal constellation of timelines. The structure of the work blends ancient depictions of the 8 evil thoughts and 7 deadly sins, in convergence with an explicitly emotional narrative about the present and post-apocalyptic dilemma of the fallen modern-day soul. To plunge head first into exhibiting sinful tones, I utilize dance theater practices and Fluxus-based collaborative tools to reveal a pronounced landscape of likeness and fantasy within the cast of six dancers.
